Telephone exchange case: reprieve for Maran brothers

The Madras High Court on Tuesday directed a Special Public Prosecutor to ensure that a special court for hearing Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) cases here does not begin issuing summons to witnesses in the illegal telephone exchange case until the disposal of petitions filed by former Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran, his brother Kalanithi Maran of Sun TV Network and other accused challenging the charges framed against them.

Justice N. Anand Venkatesh instructed the SPP K. Srinivasan to inform the special court about the cases pending in the High Court so that the trial proceedings could be slowed down temporarily.
