Tata Sky to provide Star’s regional sports channels free to all its customers during IPL

Direct to home (DTH) operator Tata Sky is providing all its customers Star Sports’ regional sports free of cost from 23rd March to 19th May. The offer coincides with the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019, which kicks off on 23rd March.

The DTH operator will provide Star Sports 1 Hindi, Star Sports 1 Tamil, Star Sports 1 Telugu, Star Sports 1 Kannada and Star Sports 1 Bangla for free. These channels will be dropped from the customer’s account on 20th May.

“All Tata Sky subscribers will be provided Star Sports 1 Hindi, Star Sports 1 Tamil, Star Sports 1 Telugu, Star Sports 1 Kannada and Star Sports 1 Bangla channels at no additional cost from 23 March 2019 (00:00 hours) to 19 May 2019 (23:59 hours). The offered channels will be dropped from the subscriber’s accounts on 20 May 2019 (00:00 hours),” Tata Sky informed its customers.

The broadcaster has launched Star Sports 1 Telugu, Star Sports 1 Kannada, and Star Sports 1 Bangla back to back. Star Sports 1 Telugu launched on 7th December followed by Star Sports 1 Kannada on 29th December and Star Sports 1 Bangla on 5th March. Also on the anvil is Star Sports 1 Marathi.

Tata Sky, a joint venture between the Tata Sons and 21st Century Fox, holds 25% of market share in the DTH segment as of January 2019. 21st Century Fox’s key entertainment assets including Tata Sky were recently acquired by Walt Disney Company.
