Scrounging off the Govt but benefitting Reliance Jio

On November 17, 2015 Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) declared in a Press Release that the company was turning around. It claimed an increase in income from services by 4.16 per cent to Rs 27,242 cr in 2014-15 compared to Rs 26,153 cr in the previous year. It boasted that this was the highest income in comparison to the previous five years. It claimed that BSNL had earned an operating profit of Rs 673 cr compared to a loss of Rs 691 cr in the previous year. Besides, it claimed of “tremendous growth in gross mobile connections per month from 9 lakh in May 2015 to 16 lakh in July 2015,” and “Arrest of landline disconnections.”
