Idea rolls out 4G service in Himachal Pradesh

Idea Cellular has rolled out its 4G service in Himachal Pradesh and plans to cover 219 towns by the end of FY17. The 4G service covers the major towns of Baddi, Dharamshala and Shimla which will further expand to Hamirpur, Kangra, Nalagarh, Palampur and Sundarnagar by Diwali, the company said.

The telco said that it has acquired spectrum in the 1800 and 2500 bands, which will be efficiently utilized for expansion of services in HP. Idea will also be boosting its wireless broadband services in the region and has invested in setting up optical fibre cable in the mountainous terrains of HP.

“Idea has successfully transitioned to become a pan-India wireless broadband service provider, readying our over 180 million customers for the Digital age. With nearly 900Mhz spectrum in both FDD and TDD bands, Idea is preparing itself to substantially improve customer’s Wireless Data experience and capture higher share of exponentially growing Mobile Data business,” said Rajat Mukarji, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Idea Cellular.

Idea revealed that presently over 12.3 million 4G devices across 10 circles are registered on its network. The com pany is offering a range of offers to expand its 4G footprint which includes 4G trial packs starting at Rs 22, 4G handset upgrade offer where user gets 9 GB free 4G data along with 1GB 4G/3G pack, and 1GB at Rs 51 with an upfront payment of Rs 1498.

The telco will also be offering complimentary 4G SIM card upgrade in Himachal Pradesh. Prepaid or Postpaid customers upgrading to 4G SIM will also get promotional 2GB 4G free data, valid upto 10 days and 50 local Idea to Idea minutes valid for 5 days.

For postpaid customers, Idea has launched easy share plans at Rs 499 and Rs 999 where customers can get 550/1000 local-STD minutes, 200/500 local and national SMS and 2GB/5GB 4G data.

Idea has partnered with Samsung, Lenovo, Intex Technologies, Xiaomi and One Plus for its special offers on 4G smartphones. The company has also tied up with EROS and Hungama for its entertainment services.
