Huawei to establish new OpenLab in Malaysia for digital transformation in APAC

Technology giant Huawei on Thursday said that it will be establishing a new OpenLab in Malaysia to drive digital transformation in APAC. The lab will facilitate innovation by accelerating collaboration with local partners and solution vendors globally.

The company had previously set up similar OpenLabs in Mexico, Munich, Singapore, Dubai and China. At Huawei’s Asia-Pacific Innovation Day being held in Kuala Lumpur, the company signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with the SME Corporation Malaysia, Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Terengganu State Government, and CyberSecurity Malaysia, for cooperation across domains including scientific research, innovation, talent, smart campuses, and cyber security.

The event which focussed on digital economy in the APAC region and digital transformation models, discussed topics based on the themes of openness, innovation, collaboration and shared success. At the event, Guo Ping, Rotating CEO at Huawei, said that in 2016, mobile payment in China reached $24 trillion. “With the use of Big Data and AI, an intelligent world is not far,” he added.

He went on to explain that when a country goes digital, its evolution of needs can be divided into four layer where the first one being the ICT infrastructure, second being security, third layer being the development of a supportive environment and the fourth being broader information sharing.

Ping further said, “In this world, all things will be connected and all things will be interlinked. Networks will connect all things, and digital brains in their cloud will house huge amount of data. With the help of digital brains, anything that will require mental effort will become more efficient.”

At the event, Huawei also presented the concept of Mobile AI where one can make their mobile phone their assistant.
