HFCL bags purchase order of Rs 1,245 cr from BSNL to build armed forces’ network: Report

Himachal Futuristic Communications (HFCL) has bagged an advance purchase order of Rs 1245 crores from state-run telco BSNL to build a dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) based optical transmission backbone network for the armed forces within 18 months, Business Standard reported.

HFCL has emerged as the lowest (L1) bidder for the electronics (IT network) and DWDM portion of the NFS project.

The state-run telco is currently managing the network for spectrum (NFS) project worth Rs 13,000 crores for defence services for spectrum that the latter had vacated for auction of 3G services.

The report said that the funds for the project, which is being managed by the telco on behalf of DoT, will come from the Centre.

The project was approved by the government on July 3, 2012, and involves laying of 60,000 km of fibre optic cable.
