GCX completes India data centre on time, says RCom

Anil Ambani-driven Reliance Communications (RCom), a subsidiary Global Cloud Xchange (GCX) Tuesday concluded its India data centre within the target timeframe, as a part of its ambitious ‘cloud and fiber’ initiative for the Eagle Subsea Network which is expected to land in India by 2020.

“When Eagle lands in two years, it will be connected to the world’s largest cloud operators inside India’s newest and largest data center,” Bill Barney, CEO of RCom, and GCX Chairman in a statement said.

Barney added that the company has completed IDC-5 in time to make it an anchor on the world’s ‘cloud & fiber initiative’ which will play a pivotal role in the hyper growth of technology expansion across the emerging markets corridor.

GCX, earlier said that the new cables extending to the East and West from India will help to accommodate increasing capacity demand and enhance network resiliency

The cloud and fiber Initiative would support businesses with high-speed transit from India west into Europe and from east into Asia’s expanding markets.

The Eagle undersea cable network would expand from Mumbai to Hong Kong via Thailand.

The 7,750-km route will include landing points in Singapore and other branching units designed to deliver high-speed capacity to and from its hub in India.

The new IDC-5 data center, located at Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge City (DAKC) in Mumbai, has the capacity of 40MW over its almost 450,000 square feet built-up area and 6,000-rack capacity. IDC-5 is a Green data center and IGBC pre-certified for Gold rating, according to the company.

The ambitious program is aimed to deliver latest technology to meet growing cloud infrastructure and capacity demands from global enterprises and OTT (over-the-top) players.
