Facebook denies conducting physical verification of an Indian user for a post

NEW DELHI: Facebook, which has been in overdrive to ensure transparency on its platform in the run up to the 2019 general elections, on Sunday denied that it has conducted physical verification of an Indian user who has written a post containing political content on his account. As per a report published by news wire agency IANS quoting an anonymous user from New Delhi, representatives from Facebook visited user’s residence asking for Aadhaar card and other documents to understand if he was the one who had posted the political content on his account.

Reacting to the report a Facebook spokesperson said in a statement, “Facebook does not conduct any form of physical verification in India, except for an advertiser who plans to run ads related to politics or issues of national importance in India.”
