ETIMC: Telcos plan to use AI, data analytics to make networks smarter, more efficient ahead of 5G deployment

New Delhi: Mobile phone companies are geared towards reengineering their networks to make them smarter and more efficient, preparing for multiple use cases which will come with mass-scale deployment of 5G technology in future.

“Our telecom industry has evolved and changing the mindset of everyone to adopt digital and automation is the key now,” said Randeep Sekhon, chief technology officer at Bharti Airtel, India’s No 2 telecom operator.

In a panel discussion at ET Telecom’s third India Mobile Conclave, Sekhon explained the concept of smart technology, saying one interpretation of that could be automation for an error-free network. “It is a smart way to ensure error-free results instead of a human intervention to the process.
