DoT clears Rs 1,500 crore for BSNL, BBNL to pay dues to vendors

NEW DELHI: State-run BSNL and Bharat Broadband Network Ltd have finally started paying their outstandings to vendors and contractors for the second phase of BharatNet initiative to provide broadband internet in all gram panchayats, after receiving Rs 1,500 crore from the telecom department.

DoT had last week released Rs 750 crore each to BSNL and BBNL from the Rs 50,000-crore Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) to make payments to their vendor-partners for deploying high-speed optical fibre network, an official told ET.
