Dial 112 for Emergency Services

The government has decided to adopt a single 112 number for accessing emergency services in India. At present three emergency numbers – 100 (Police), 101 (Fire) and 102 (Ambulance) – are working in the country. In some states, number 108 is also working for disaster management. In addition to these numbers few more helpline numbers are also working for women, senior citizens, children, coast guard, air, highway and railway accident, blood bank, eye bank, accident / trauma centers, etc. It was also decided that effective from January 1, 2018 all the new handsets being sold in India shall be GPS enabled.
