Cyber warriors and digital youth

BENGALURU: As Lok Sabha elections draw near, the online face-off between the three main political parties — BJP, Congress and JD(S) — is slowly coming to a boil in the state. With an eye on ensuring their party narratives reach the masses, BJP and Congress have begun the process of building teams of online warriors.
While the BJP has decided to form a team of 100 cyber warriors in each of the 224 assembly constituencies, the Congress plans to go hyper local by having one ‘digital youth’ at each of the 57,000 polling stations.
Buoyed by the success of social media in getting Prime Minister Narendra Modi elected in 2014, the BJP is again trying to use online platforms to project “Phir Ek Baar Modi Sarkar” (once again Modi government). The saffron party has already begun hosting social media conventions/workshops across the state.
