BSNL staff begin strike

Urging the Central government to provide benefits to executives under the third Pay Revision Committee and fulfill their other demands, employees of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, under the banner All India Unions and Associations of BSNL, began their three-day strike here on Monday.

Over 1,200 employees in the district and 500 contract workers participated in the strike urging allocation of fourth-generation (4G) spectrum to the BSNL that will help the company to compete with other players in the telecom market. Members said that the company was unable to compete in the competitive market as the 4G spectrum was not allowed leading to huge loss. However, officials said that the strike did not affect the services, but affected the maintenance and repair works.
