2G+4G Scam

On January16, 2018 Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) under the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) signed an agreement with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) to deploy an outdated technology 2G. BSNL is in turn purchasing the 2G network from Vihaan Networks Ltd (VNL) and Himachal Futuristic Communications Ltd (HFCL) at huge cost of Rs 2,258 crore. The entire project is being funded by USOF. Both VNL & HFCL will roll out the 2G network in Arunachal Pradesh and in two districts of Assam ie Karbi Anglong & Dima Hasao Districts, and provide services for 5 years under the banner of BSNL.
